This Saturday night was curry night and I decided to get myself a take away and try out the new Curry Republic in Henley in Arden.

Now this is a bit of a local for for me and I was really disappointed when the previous Indian restaurant at the same location closed a year or so back – I was a frequent visitor.

Anyway I must say they have made some great changes to the interior and have created a really nice atmosphere and were already mostly full by 8pm. They have an open plan kitchen – something that I’m not always a fan of, but it works here and adds to the sense of freshness and vibrancy of the establishment.

I was a few minutes early arriving, but the food was already awaiting me and was nicely presented in sturdy and environmentally friendly packaging – and absolutely nothing leaked – something that drives me nuts elsewhere!

The food was great – very fresh tasting, well balanced and plentiful -will I make a return visit – oh yes I think so!

National Curry Week Charity Donation

The Big-hearted owner of the newly opened Curry Republic in Henley-in-Arden marked November’s ‘National Curry Week’ with a generous donation to a local charity.

Bilal Ahmed, from Knowle, handed-over £500 of the restaurant’s takings during ‘National Curry Week’ to The Joseph Foote Trust, a charity formed by Solihull businessman Andy Foote in 2001 after his son, Joseph was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged only 2½.

Bilal said: “ We are delighted to highlight and support such a worthy local cause.”

The Curry Republic in Henley High Street opened last month and offers fine Indian cuisine at affordable prices for eat in, takeaway or home delivery.

The Curry Republic Henley in Arden

I’ve just come back from Miller and Carter SteakHouse in Dickens Heath Solihull. The occasion was my daughter’s 15th birthday and the 6 of us arrived for a pre-booked 6pm table.

I have to say I was very impressed with the reception staff  and the venue – we were quickly shown to our seats and made very welcome.

Drinks orders were quickly taken and our friendly Waitress arrived  promptly to take our orders.

The restaurant was nicely busy but not packed but I felt the food was perhaps just 10 minutes slow in arriving – the kids were just starting to fidget – but nothing too serious.

Then our food arrived and it was great – all good traditional stuff – steak for me and ribs for the kids – Mrs L went vegetarian for the night and notwithstanding it is a steak house, she enjoyed it very much.

Puddings followed quickly thereater followed by the bill and departure – £105 for the 6 of us including fizzy drinks and a couple of beers for Mrs L and myself – and now we all feel happily stuffed!

So I give them 8 out of 10 and I have given myself a reminder to go back soon.
